Faces

I’ve become preoccupied with my level of comfort with the human face.

At what point did I accept a nose being set above a mouth, in between eyes as normal?

It’s so incredibly odd to me that I’ve even gone so far as to think some of them beautiful.

Why do they do weird things like laughing?
If you listen closely it sounds extraterrestrial—
The strange cackling they release.

Why do they use their mouths to eat, speak, and kiss?
It’s kind of gross if you think about it.
Why aren’t there separate openings for those things—or maybe none?

It’s so odd to me they make it a point to eat every day.
It’s exhausting and inefficient.

And what of the way they’ve chosen to live?
Married to money, reputation, and other people?!

Yeah, my acceptance of the human face concerns me greatly.
